The place to go when you need to know

The Benton County Extension Center is available to help you get the information you need. Extension can get you research-based information in the areas of agriculture, business and the workforce, children and teens, community development, environmental quality, family life, home and garden, and nutrition and health. 

Office hours

The Benton County Extension Office is open Monday through Friday. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m.

Benton County Master Gardeners

The Benton County Master Gardeners' (BCMGs) meeting is Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 10 am. Weather permitting, we have scheduled this meeting as our milkweed planting date for the BCMG Monarch Habitat Garden at East Bledsoe Ferry. We have also scheduled the BCMGs plant sale at Orscheln's parking lot for Saturday, April 30, 2016, 9 am.

Missouri Century Farms

If your farm has been in your family since December 31, 1916, you can apply to have it recognized as a Missouri Century Farm. To qualify, farms must meet the following guidelines. The same family must have owned the farm for 100 consecutive years. The line of ownership from the original settler or buyer may be through children, grandchildren, siblings, and nephews or nieces, including through marriage or adoption. The farm must be at least 40 acres of the original land acquisition and make a financial contribution to the overall farm income. For applications received by May 1, 2016, a $65. fee covers the cost of a certificate, farm sign, and booklet for approved applicants. If the application is received between May 1, 2016 and May 16, 2016, the cost is $75. Applications must be postmarked by May 16, 2016 to be considered. MU Extension has publications on agriculture, natural resources, lawn and garden, home and consumer life, nutrition and health, families, community and leadership development, business and careers, emergency management and other topics. Prices vary by publication.

Build Your Boardonline training program

This program was designed specifically for board members of nonprofit organizations. Participants can log in at any time and take all 16 lessons at once or can break the training up in 15-minute intervals.
