    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy - Level 1 (Session 5 of 16)

    Description:

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) aims to provide inactive middle-aged and older adults with access to a safe, structured and effective exercise program capable of building muscle and increasing bone density, thus decreasing frailty, osteoporosis and the risk of falls. SSSH helps participants meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s physical activity recommendations.

    SSSH challenges participants through incremental increases in exercise volume and intensity. Led by a certified instructor, participants complete a warmup, a prescribed set of upper- and lower-body strengthening exercises and a cool-down at each class. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.

    Missouri Master Naturalist (Session 1 of 19)

    Description:

    Help protect the natural resources of Camden, Miller, Morgan and surrounding counties by becoming a Missouri Master Naturalist. The Missouri Master Naturalist program is a community-based, adult natural resource education and volunteer program designed to engage Missourians in the stewardship of our state's natural resources.

    Registration has begun for the Lake of the Ozarks Master Naturalist certification training course. An orientation session will be held January 21 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Mo. Dept of Conservation Office, Thunder Mountain Road, Camdenton, MO. Closing date for the spring training registration is January 31st and class size is limited.

    Training sessions will be held at the Mo. Dept of Conservation office, Thunder Mountain Road, Camdenton, MO. from 6-9 pm on Tuesdays beginning February 25th and ending May 19th. Three Saturday field trips are included. The 50-hour course will teach you about Missouri's natural resource ecology and management. After graduation, participants are asked to provide 40 hours of volunteer service on land management, citizen science, education, and other conservation related projects in the local community and participate in eight hours of advanced training opportunities.

    Private Pesticide Applicators Training (Session 2 of 5)

    Description:

    Missouri law requires all purchasers and users of restricted-use pesticides to attend a training session to be certified for a private applicators license. Those obtaining a private applicators license may not accept payment if spraying pesticides for someone else. Due to the new regulations this training will not qualify you for the use of Dicamba. You must attend one of the statewide training session specific to Dicamba. Missouri law is currently under review and will possibly change in the near future with stricter requirements.

    During this training, participants will learn about safe handling of pesticides, proper mixing, calibration techniques, environmental ramifications of improper mixing or careless application, chemical breakdown of pesticides in the environment, what records are needed, pesticide formulations, personal protective wear and how to clean it, pesticide storage, common MO pests, and integrated pest management (IPM).

    All classes will start at 6:30 pm. Expect the class to run until 9:30 pm.

    Please pre-register one week prior to each session as materials will be needed to be copied
    Participants will be required to have access to a Private Pesticide Applicator Reference Manual. Training will be provided by Terry Halleran, Regional Agronomy Specialist.
