    Ste. Genevieve County Private Pesticide Applicator Training

    Description:

    Initial training and recertification of private pesticide applicators. Missouri law requires all purchasers and users of restricted-use pesticides to attend a training session to be certified for a private applicator license. During this training, participants will learn about safe handling of pesticides, proper mixing, calibration techniques, environmental ramifications of improper mixing or careless application, chemical breakdown of pesticides in the environment, what records are needed, pesticide formulations, personal protective gear and how to clean it, pesticide storage, common MO pests, and integrated pest management (IPM).

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy - Level 1 (Session 7 of 16)

    When:  Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

    Description:

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) aims to provide inactive middle-aged and older adults with access to a safe, structured and effective exercise program capable of building muscle and increasing bone density, thus decreasing frailty, osteoporosis and the risk of falls. SSSH helps participants meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s physical activity recommendations.

    SSSH challenges participants through incremental increases in exercise volume and intensity. Led by a certified instructor, participants complete a warmup, a prescribed set of upper- and lower-body strengthening exercises and a cool-down at each class. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.

    97th Annual Greene County Agriculture Production Conference

    The 97th Annual Agriculture Production Conference and Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District Annual Meeting provides research-based information and options to area agriculture producers that can help them make more informed and profitable decisions. The two featured speakers for the evening will cover two topics identified as being of significant interest for agriculture production this coming year.

    A free dinner catered by Does Eat Place begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by two guest speakers. Will McClain, Assistant Professor at Missouri State University, will present, “Grazing Your Way to Profitable Beef Production.” The evening will end with a panel discussion focused on “Growing Farm Revenues with U-Pick Operations.” Kelly McGowan, horticulture specialist with MU Extension will moderate the panel featuring local producers.     Graduate students from the MU Animal Sciences Department, Troy Rowan and Harly Durbin, will present on their research projects which focus on cattle adapted to their environment and how to select for these adaptations. Cattle adaptability and heat tolerance as determined by hair shedding. Region specific EPD's to define cattle that will perform in particular climatic regions. Event is free with dinner provided.
