    Where:
1 N. Folger Street,, Carrollton MO map...

    Description:

Industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) was grown as a fiber crop in Missouri until mid-1900s. The controlled substance Act, 1970 made it illegal to produce any form of the cannabis plant.
The recent changes in federal and state legislation have increased interest in growing hemp for fiber, grain and CBD oil.
The Missouri department of agriculture (MDA) is working to establish regulations and procedures in advance of the 2020 industrial hemp-growing season. As part of the rules making process, the Department is asking for public comment on the proposed industrial hemp rules until Dec. 1, 2019.
The department will publish applications for producer registrations and agricultural hemp propagule and seed permits on MDA webpage on Dec. 2, 2019. Industrial hemp may not be grown in Missouri and individuals may not possess seeds or propagules without an applicable producer registration and/or agriculture hemp propagule and seed permit.
MU Extension in Carroll County offers a free workshop on industrial hemp production. The event is 1:00 – 4:30 p.m., Jan. 29, 2020, at the Carrollton Public Library Conference Room in Carrollton, MO.
MU Extension Specialists talk on agronomic practices of growing industrial hemp and crop enterprise budgets. Representatives from Missouri Department of Agriculture give an overview of regulations and the application process.

Hearing from unlikely yet successful entrepreneurs, participants will learn to evaluate business opportunities from a practical method inspired by the life story of Clifton Taulbert.

This course is a revolutionary new learning program designed to inspire and engage participants in the fundamental aspects of an entrepreneurial mindset and the unlimited opportunities it can provide. The overall objective is to empower learners through entrepreneurial thinking and immerse them in entrepreneurial experiences that will enable them to develop entrepreneurial skills. 2020 Fertilizer and Soil Fertility School - Nutritional Deficiencies and Soil Testing Recommendations

    When:  Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2020, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

    Where:
4125 Mitchell Ave, St Joseph MO map...

    Description:

Nearly 80% of Missouri’s 29 million acres are devoted to crop and rangeland. Agricultural cash receipts total about $4 billion annually, making agriculture one of the top two industries in Missouri. Nearly half of agricultural cash receipts come from crop sales, and receipts from animal sales depend heavily on the production of feed crops not counted in cash receipts. Studies have repeatedly documented that the influence of crop management practices on production costs and production levels are the main determinants of profitability. Improvements in crop management systems will enhance economic viability for most Missourians and not just those directly involved in agriculture.

Because land use in Missouri is dominated by agriculture, crop management systems have a significant impact on the environment, especially on water quality. Missouri has some of the most erodible soils in the U.S., leading to sediment contamination of surface waters and loss of valuable topsoil. Improved crop management systems have led to reduced erosion rates over the past twenty years, but erosion rates are still higher than the rate of topsoil formation, and sediment is still one of the most serious sources of water quality impairment. Nutrients and pesticides originating from agriculture also can have negative impacts on water quality. Thus, improvements in crop management practices and systems are essential to sustaining a healthy environment.
