    Warm Season Grass Cattle Grazing Workshop (Session 2 of 2)

    When:  Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

    625 W Nursery Street Ste B, Butler MO map...

    Description:

    Warm season grasses provide high quality summer forage for cattle grazing and allow rest time for lower quality cools season pastures,” says Patrick Davis, MU Extension Regional Livestock Field Specialist. Ideal planting time for native warm season grasses is winter and spring. Therefore, MU Extension will provide Warm Season Grass Cattle Grazing Workshops during November to educate cattle producers interested in knowledge on establishment, management and cattle grazing benefits of warm season grasses.
    Locations and times for these workshops will be:
    • November 8th, Kneeland Center, 209 A South Main, Liberal, Mo. at 1:00 p. m.
    • November 19th, Bates County NRCS/SWCD Office, 625 West Nursery Box B, Butler, Mo.at 6:00 p. m.
    MU Extension Agronomy and Livestock Field Specialists will give similar presentations at each locations. Presentation topics will include:
    • Warm Season Grass Development and Management
    • Cattle Nutrition and Grazing Management on Warm Season Grasses

    Workshop is free to the public but registrations is required to attend. To register for the November 8th workshop contact the Barton County MU Extension Center at (417) 682-3579 by November 7th. To register for November 19th workshop contact the Bates County NRCS/SWCD Office at (660) 679-6124 ext. 3 by November 18th.

    More Grass on Fewer Acres (Session 1 of 3)

    When:  Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019, 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

    Description:

    Pasture Improvements and/or Renovation to improve grass production on your farm.

    Forages are the backbone to the cattle industry. This program has been created to assist landowners in making sound decisions about pasture improvements while allowing for greater carrying capacities over longer periods of time. This is intended to be three two-hour programs over three nights with a variety of speakers.

    Handouts relevant to the topics will be provided. The cost will be $10.00 per night or $25.00 for all sessions. (Proceeds to be used to support travel of the speakers and handout materials.) To enroll please contact the Laclede County MU Extension Office at 417-532-4587 or email Jonetta Shaver to hold your spot.

    Seating will be limited so please register as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly. Cut-off date for registration will be November 15, 2019.

    Accessing the Current Pasture Situation (Terry Halleran MU Extension Agronomist)
    Inventorying your current grass/legume types
    Weed pressure and possibilities
    Broomsedge is not a desirable grass
    Understanding how much of your pasture grasses are underutilized due to your current grazing practices (Andy McCorkill MU Extension Livestock Specialist)

    Grazing condition (Over/under stocked)
    Continuous VS Controlled grazing
    Grazing to the proper height to allow recover
    What beef cattle really need to make it through the winter
    Heifer Development is different from Cow Management
