Managing Your Woodland: For Health and Productivity

Description:

Study and know your market before you sell trees! This All day short course is part of Extension’s Missouri Woodland Steward Program. This workshop helps landowners learn how to improve the quality of their woodland and how to market it. Topics covered will be Getting to Know Your Woodland, Managing Your Woodland and Marketing Your Timber. During a provided lunch, you will have the opportunity to view Strong Men, Big Timber, highlighting whiskey and wine barrel manufacturing, Missouri’s highest value-added forest product. There will be an outdoor demonstration were the class will travel to a privately owned woodland where you will get to walk the land and see first-hand many of the principles presented during the morning session; how to select crop trees, when and how to prune high-value crop trees, how to chemically remove unwanted trees, how to plan a successful harvest. This will be a great hands-on/demonstration activity.

SMQA Training

Description:

A required training for 4-H youth who are or will be exhibiting livestock including (beef, sheep, swine, dairy cattle, meat and dairy goats, rabbits and poultry) at the local, county and state fairs. MSMQA Missouri Show Me Quality Assurance certification emphasizes good management practices in the handling and use of animal health products, and encourages youth to review their approach to their animal’s health and care.

Urban Region Jr Leaders (Session 2 of 7)

When:  Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, 1 p.m. to Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, 10 a.m.

Description:

The purpose of Jr Leaders is to teach youth the importance of understanding themselves as leaders and how to apply leadership skills in a team setting as well as assist them in identifying opportunities to practice their leadership skills. Through active participation, Jr Leaders will interact with business, community and government leaders, educators and extension staff to explore ways to contribute to the Urban Region. Beyond leadership and service, Jr. Leaders provides a social network for teens within the Urban Region.

Session topic:

Winter Retreat was held in Liberty and focused on Marketing Plan and Spring/Summer event planning. Leadership sessions included a focus on personal motivations and how to define your team.

Will vary based on event. First retreat was $30 to attend to cover lodging/meals. Second retreat was $10 to cover meals. Lodging was given as in kind donation. Third retreat was at no cost to Jr Leaders as it coincided with the Summer Day Camp they were counseling for. Costs were paid out of Regional Funds.

Focus on Kids

Description:

Helps divorced and separated parents learn how to support their children through the divorce process and how to work together in co-parenting their children.  Focus on Kids satisfies the Missouri law that requires parents who are divorcing or filing a motion to modify the original divorce decree, or who have never been married but have filed a child custody case, to attend an educational parenting program.
