This class will be held on January 17, January 24, January 31, February 7 and February 14. Attendance at all five sessions is mandatory. Got a great technology-based idea and want to turn it into a business? Then I-Corps Site is for you! I-Corps Site helps you transform your ideas into Commercially Viable Businesses • Develop a value proposition and business model for your idea using the Lean Canvas. • Interview potential customers, experts, and investors to determine if your idea is viable. • Learn about technology commercialization from experienced mentors and program instructors. • Get funding! Participating teams receive a$3,000 grant to develop prototypes or conduct customer and industry research. Eligibility: Faculty, university students, and community inventors from the Kansas City Metro area with a technology-based idea (digital, bio-science, engineered products, healthcare, animal health, etc) Application is required to the UMKC SBTDC program through link below. Missouri Master Naturalist (Session 1 of 17)

Description:

Help protect the natural resources of Camden, Miller, Morgan and surrounding counties by becoming a Missouri Master Naturalist. The Missouri Master Naturalist program is a community-based, adult natural resource education and volunteer program designed to engage Missourians in the stewardship of our state's natural resources. Registration has begun for the Lake of the Ozarks Master Naturalist certification training course. An orientation session will be held January 17 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Mo. Dept of Conservation Office, Thunder Mountain Road, Camdenton, MO. Closing date for the spring training registration is January 31st and class size is limited. Training sessions will be held at the Mo. Dept of Conservation office, Thunder Mountain Road, Camdenton, MO. from 6-9 pm on Wednesdays beginning February 28th and ending May 23th. Three Saturday field trips are included. The 50-hour course will teach you about Missouri's natural resource ecology and management. After graduation, participants are asked to provide 40 hours of volunteer service on land management, citizen science, education, and other conservation related projects in the local community and participate in eight hours of advanced training opportunities. Stay Strong Stay Healthy Level 2 (Session 1 of 19)

Description:

Missouri’s Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) program is designed to increase independent living older adults’ access to a safe, structured, and effective strength training program. Stay Strong, Stay Healthy- Level 2 is a follow-up to Level 1. It is for those who want to challenge themselves a bit more! Over eight weeks, participants learn exercises to improve strength, flexibility and balance. At each session, a prescribed set of eight to 10 upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. In order to enroll in the Stay Strong, Stay Healthy–Level 2 program, you must have completed the Stay Strong, Stay Healthy-Level 1 program at least twice. Participants are made to feel comfortable and are encouraged to gradually build the strength beneficial to health. All equipment is provided.

Produce safety workshop set for Jan. 17 in Webb City

Fruit and vegetable growers can learn about produce safety at a half-day workshop, Jan. 17 in Webb City, Mo. The workshop will help all produce growers, include those selling at farmers markets and to restaurants, grocery stores and wholesalers, improve the safety of their produce and will provide an introduction to produce safety regulations and market requirements. “Because some produce is not cooked before eating, it’s essential that anyone handling fresh fruit and vegetables along the grower-to-consumer chain use the best practices possible to ensure safety,” said Londa Nwadike, consumer food safety specialist with University of Missouri Extension and Kansas State Research and Extension. Participants can receive up to 10 free water tests after attending the workshop, Nwadike said. The workshop is 9 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at Central United Methodist Church, 5 Pennsylvania Ave., Webb City, Mo. Cost is $15.
