Food Entrepreneurship: A New Way of Thinking About Food and Jobs (Session 1 of 2)

This one-day workshop will explore issues and opportunities related to food-based businesses as an economic development strategy. Guest speakers will talk about innovative approaches currently in use. An overview of shared processing facilities will be provided, including types, feasibility considerations, and funding sources. Participants should expect to work in regional groups and develop 2-3 specific action plans by the end of the workshop. The workshop will be offered at least four times across Missouri, November 2013 to March 2014. At each event local information will be incorporated into the agenda.
This workshop, in addition to the core material, will include results of a local foods study conducted in the six bootheel counties, and a presentation by Dr. Sven Svenson, Southeast Missouri State University Department of Agriculture.
