"Take Control of Your Finances" is a workshop that offers information to those who are unemployed, underemployed, laid-off or dislocated. Its focus is to help attendees reduce the stress that often comes with these situations by developing a plan to continue to meet their needs until a new job opportunity develops.
Topics include: filing for unemployment benefits, resources available to help with employment search, talking with family about finances, developing a budget, prioritizing debts, contacting creditors, avoiding scams and predatory lenders, considering available community resources and more.
The program is operated in collaboration with Business and Industry under a state contract with the Department of Economic Development. Local Career Centers work with Extension specialists to serve individuals and arrange the seminars.
To participate you must be registered with jobs.mo.gov. Please visit their website to create an account.
To register for the class, contact Missouri Career Center (660) 530-5627.
The workshops are offered every 2nd Tuesday of the month, 9:30 – 11:30 AM at the Missouri Career Center in Sedalia, (215 E. 5th St.) and every 4th Tuesday of the month, 1:30 – 3:30 PM at the Saline County Extension Center in Marshall(353 S. Lafayette). Class size is limited and individual sessions with fewer than six registered attendees will be cancelled, so please register well before your preferred date and location.
