Relatives As Parents--Northland Grandfamilies (Session 11 of 12)
Wednesday, May 8, 2013, 10 a.m. to noon
North Cross United Methodist Church
1321 NE Vivion Road, Kansas City MO map...
The Northland Grandfamilies program educates and supports grandparents/aunts/uncles who are raising grandchildren/nieces/nephews. The program is designed to assist grandparents and other relatives raising children with numerous issues that arise; including legal concerns, financial burderns as well as the emotional and physical stress that can result. Monthly meetings provide a confidential venue for support, in addition to guest speakers who address situations that the grandparents are facing. The Northland Grandfamilies program is made possible through a partnership that includes grant funding from Clay County Senior Services and the Platte County Senior Fund. The Clay County Extension Council provides in-kind support to the program, including office space for the part-time program associate.
This month's meeting will include a field trip to the Riverside Community Center, where participants will receive a tour and be able to observe one of the senior exercise classes offered there.
Any grandparent, aunt or uncle who is raising a grandchild, niece or nephew with little or no help from the child's parent(s) is welcome to participate in the Northland Grandfamilies program. Monthly meetings are free of charge, but if it is your first time to attend, we encourage you to contact the University of Missouri Extension Center at 816-407-3490 to obtain more information prior to the meeting.
