August is the perfect time of year to start thinking about making the most of the fall gardening season. Many cool season vegetable crops can be planted in mid-summer to produce a bountiful crop of vegetables by mid-autumn. Besides all the activities to extend the gardening season well into late October here in the Ozarks, fall is also the perfect time of year to improve your soil structure and pH while preparing your garden for the spring planting season.
This course is designed to teach beginning gardeners the basics of extending the vegetable gardening season into autumn and provide an overview of the best organic fall garden management practices to limit the spread and overwintering of insects and diseases.
Students will learn about fall vegetable gardening, garden site preparation, end of season garden site cleanup, and preparing the soil for the fallowing spring planting season.
