Growing Growers program is an apprenticeship program sponsored by the K-State Research and Extension, University of Missouri Extension, Lincoln University Cooperative Extension, Cultivate Kansas City and Kansas City Food Circle. Apprentices work on local, sustainably-run farms, where they experience the day-to-day operations of a farm. The apprenticeship program gives new farmers/growers an opportunity to receive hands-on experience. They attend workshops and farm tours, meet new and experienced farmers, receive textbooks and on-the-job and formal training from their host farmers.
The workshop will cover basic principals of production of Blueberries, Blackberries and Strawberries. It will also cover a new invasive pest-spotted wing drosophila.
